The Flavour of Melbourne summed up in one bite
To celebrate Melbourne’s 180th Birthday, Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses have teamed up with Melbourne Day, to bring to life what the people of Melbourne believe is the ultimate Flavour of Melbourne Pie.
Melbourne was founded on August 30, 1835 and has over the years become one of Australia’s foodie hubs, with a huge array of cultures forming the social and culinary backbone of this great city. As one of Victoria’s oldest bakeries, Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses wanted to help the people of Melbourne really celebrate this special occasion and so the challenge to find the ultimate Flavour of Melbourne Pie was born.
Will it be an Indian Bombay Curry, or perhaps feature some Kangaroo, maybe a Greek Roast Lamb or even a Peking Duck pie….only time will tell – but Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses are eager to rise to the challenge of bringing the ultimate Flavour of Melbourne Pie to life.
Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses CEO, Steve Plarre said, “Having been an integral part of the fabric of Melbourne for so many years, we are thrilled to be taking part in what is a very special year for Melbourne. Connecting with our community is always a key priority for Ferguson Plarre and giving our customers a chance to create the Flavour of Melbourne Pie is an honour & a privilege.”
The lucky foodie who has the honour of being the first to create the Flavour of Melbourne will enjoy not just bragging rights, but also a $300 Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses Birthday Cake and their next birthday party catered for. They will also be invited to the main concert stage at Docklands on 30 August to talk about what inspired their Pie Flavour and what Melbourne means to them as well as an exclusive ticket to join the Melbourne Day sailing of the Enterprize.
To be a part of this unique chance to create the Flavour of Melbourne Pie, fans simply need to head to the Ferguson Plarre Bakehouse Facebook page, go to the Flavour of Melbourne competition tab and nominate their flavour before Wednesday July 14.
Once nominations are in, the four most popular nominated flavours will be put to a vote from July 16. Melburnians can vote with their likes, as the flavour that gains the most love will be deemed the winner and be sent to the oven ready to launch on July 30, for every Melburnian to enjoy during the busy schedule of Melbourne Day festivities.
The Flavour of Melbourne Pie will be available in all Ferguson Plarre outlets throughout August in the lead up to Melbourne’s birthday party on Sunday August 30.
So the challenge is set for Melburnians to don their creative foodie hats and define what really is the ultimate Flavour of Melbourne Pie. Don’t wait; get in first with your most creative flavour ideas to celebrate 180 years of Melbourne.
